Learn More About the Journey of the Assabet Co-op Market

The beginning

The Co-op began when a group of four people met in February of 2012 to talk about starting a food co-op in Maynard. The town of Maynard was selected because it is ideally suited for a food co-op: small town, walkable, easy to access, and centrally located to several adjacent towns.

Over the next several years the group expanded, began selling Memberships, and raised seed funds – from both community members and through a grant from the Food Co-op Initiative.

We officially opened our doors on May 31, 2023! More than 2,200 locals own our store, but you do not need to be an owner to shop here. We’re open every day from 8am-8pm with lots of fresh, locally sourced, organic and conventional food. And the Assabet River views from our 64-ft long deck are breathtaking! We’ll see you at the co-op!
