Grocery – Receiving Lead
Position Type: Full-time
Purpose
To ensure accurate, timely, and efficient receiving of grocery department products in support of inventory accuracy, food safety, and smooth store operations. The Receiving Lead is responsible for coordinating and executing grocery receiving activities, maintaining receiving standards, and supporting inventory integrity under the direction of the Grocery Manager, while collaborating with other departments to support coordinated receiving activities across the store.

- Wage Level: Starting at $17.00/hour, range commensurate with experience
Essential Responsibilities and Functions
Customer Experience

Receiving Operations Support
- Lead and coordinate grocery department receiving activities under the direction of the Grocery Manager, ensuring accurate, timely, and organized receipt of deliveries
- Receive, inspect, and verify deliveries for accuracy, quality, food safety, pack sizes, temperatures, and documentation, following established procedures
- Ensure receiving data, invoices, and documentation are accurately recorded and entered into systems
- Identify, document, and communicate receiving discrepancies, damages, shortages, recalls, and recurring issues to the Grocery Manager and Purchasing Manager
- Support proper staging, storage, and flow of product from receiving to backstock or sales floor to maintain product integrity and operational efficiency
- Coordinate receiving activities with other departments (including Produce and Kitchen) to support shared receiving space, delivery timing, and cross-department communication
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe receiving, backstock, and storage areas; ensure receiving equipment and tools are functional and report issues promptly.
Department Operations
- Support day-to-day department operations and help set daily priorities as directed by the Grocery Manager or when the manager is absent
- Support proper handling and disposition of damaged, spoiled, or unsellable products in accordance with established procedures
- Assist with maintaining clean, organized, and safe store and work areas to support efficient department operations
- Monitor department equipment and conditions and promptly report concerns to management
- Support staff adherence to established procedures and training standards related to receiving, stocking, rotation, and department organization
- Participate in store inventory counts and operational projects as required
- Support department expense control and waste reduction efforts by following established direction and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by store management
Manager on Duty (as needed or when scheduled)
- The Manager on Duty will be a designated key carrier for the co-op and will be trained to open and close the store as needed
- Provide support to all departments to ensure store security, prompt and friendly customer service and a safe working environment for staff
- Review and monitor the physical appearance of the store and do whatever is necessary to maintain smooth and cohesive store operations
- Resolve customer concerns and complaints according to Co-op policies and procedures
All department staff must adhere to all policies and guidelines as laid out in the staff handbook and department level operating standards.

- Frequent exposure to cold, hot, wet or humid conditions
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous materials ranging from natural to chemical (store products, cleaning products, scents from working in a public setting)
- Exposure to and potential handling of fresh foods including meats and seafood
- Handling objects that have been handled by the public
- Frequently performs work standing on cement floors at the cash register
- May work occasionally in temperature extremes (walk-in freezer, outside warehouse, hot kitchen, etc.)
- Noise level in the store is usually moderate to loud
